Caption: The image above says “In this lab, we believe: science is real, love is love, Black Lives Matter, feminism is for everyone, psychology is cool, and immigrants are welcome.” While this image encompasses some of our values as a lab, we recognize that it doesn’t encompass all of the equity-deserving groups who are deserving of respectful and meaningful inclusion into our research and beyond.

Our mission

Our mission is to strive for a research community that is equitable, diverse, and inclusive. We are committed to continued action to ensure that our research community is safe and equitable for children, adolescents, young adults, and families who are Black, racialized persons / persons of colour, Indigenous Peoples, women, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ persons, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. As a research community, we believe that Black Lives Matter. We acknowledge that we exist within, contribute to, and benefit from different forms of institutional oppression.

Our lab aims to use our resources and privilege as an organization to support the recruitment and retention of trainees from equity-deserving groups.

We believe engaging in this work is our duty as researchers, healthcare providers, and human beings.

Land Acknowledgement

Our lab operates on the territories of the Indigenous Peoples of Treaty 7, which includes the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Tsuut’ina, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney) First Nations. This land is also the home to the people of the Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).
